We understand your travel goals when you visit Peru, you want to experience as much as possible without spending too many days in just one destination. That’s why we designed this program: a perfect short getaway that lets you explore the Amazon jungle while still keeping your itinerary flexible.
This 2-day adventure is ideal for travelers who want a taste of the rainforest without sacrificing time in other amazing places like Cusco, Machu Picchu, or the Sacred Valley.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. in our private transport and begin our journey from Cusco toward the Amazon. As we travel through breathtaking mountain landscapes and deep valleys, we’ll reach the traditional town of Paucartambo, known for its vibrant folklore and colonial charm. Here, we’ll take a short walk around the main square and you’ll have the chance to enjoy a fresh local breakfast.
From Paucartambo, we continue for about 40 minutes until we arrive at Acjanaco Pass (11,450 ft), the official gateway to Manu National Park.
Once inside the park, we will explore the cloud forest, a magical environment filled with orchids, moss-covered trees, and constant mist. During our hike, we’ll search for iconic species such as the cock-of-the-rock—Peru’s national bird—along with quetzals, toucans, capuchin monkeys, and woolly monkeys.
In the afternoon, we continue descending into the rainforest until we reach our lodge, where you can rest and get settled. After dinner, those who wish can join an optional night walk, the best time to spot fascinating nocturnal wildlife like frogs, alligators, colorful insects, spiders, and even snakes. It’s the perfect introduction to the Amazon.
We begin our day early with a drive to Machuwasi Oxbow Lake, where we’ll board small wooden canoes to glide across its mirror-calm waters at sunrise. This is one of the most active wildlife hours of the day, offering excellent chances to spot birds, caimans, and other rainforest species. We will also climb the nearby observation tower for stunning panoramic views of the surrounding jungle.
For those who wish, we offer an optional visit to a Wildlife Rescue Center, where you can observe rehabilitated animals such as monkeys, macaws, peccaries, and possibly a tapir—an experience ideal for those interested in conservation.
After exploring the lake, we continue to the Hummingbird Garden, a peaceful sanctuary visited by numerous hummingbird species. Here we will enjoy breakfast while watching these vibrant birds feed and hover, and if we’re lucky, we may spot monkeys and other wildlife.
We then visit a coca plantation, where your guide will explain the cultural, historical, and economic importance of coca in both the Andes and the Amazon.
In the afternoon, we will begin our return journey to Cusco, arriving around 7:00 p.m. Along the way, we will make several stops to stretch, use the restroom, and enjoy lunch before continuing back to the city.
Important Note: To enhance wildlife observation and reduce your presence in the forest, please wear clothing in neutral and discreet colors—such as green, beige, brown, gray, or black. These tones blend naturally with the environment, helping avoid disturbing animals and allowing for a more immersive and respectful jungle experience.
