We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 a.m. in our private transport. As we journey through stunning mountains and valleys, we will arrive at the charming folkloric town of Paucartambo, where we will take a brief walk to explore and have the option to enjoy a local breakfast. Afterward, we continue for about 40 minutes to Acjanaco Pass (3495 m.a.s.l), marking the entrance to Manu National Park.
Once inside, we will embark on a hike through the misty cloud forest, searching for a variety of wildlife, including Peru’s national bird, the cock-of-the-rock, as well as quetzals, toucans, and playful monkeys. Later, we will reach our lodge and settle in for the night. For those interested, there will be an optional night walk to spot fascinating jungle creatures like spiders, frogs, snakes, and etc.
In the morning, we will drive until we get a garden of hummingbirds. After spending some minutes over there, we will take the boat and go to our lodge to have lunch.
In the afternoon, we walk through trails where there is an opportunity to find monkeys, hoatzins “pre-Hispanic birds”, horned screamers, oropendolas, etc. After some minutes of walking, we are going to arrive at Machuwasi Oxbow Lake where you can ride on local rafts and watch birds from a tower.
As darkness falls, our expert guides will lead you through the wild, searching for elusive snakes, tarantulas, mysterious owls, scorpions, croaking frogs, and so much more. With each step, you’ll uncover the secrets of the nocturnal world and witness these fascinating animals in their natural habitat.
We will start the day with a scenic boat tour along the river, heading towards a special clay wall, also known as a “collpa,” where large numbers of vibrant parrots and colorful macaws gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay. This spectacle is an unforgettable sight as dozens of birds flutter about, filling the air with their bright colors and distinctive calls. You’ll have the opportunity to observe their natural behavior up close, capturing incredible photos as they gather in the trees and on the clay wall.
After breakfast, we will have three hours to explore the majestic primary forest, surrounded by towering ceiba trees, known as the giants and mothers of the jungle. During the walk, we will keep an eye out for monkeys, toucans, insects, and much more. After lunch, we will enjoy a revitalizing clay therapy in the jungle, followed by a refreshing swim in the Manu River, all while continuing to observe exotic birds and, with luck, perhaps the imposing red howler monkey. At night, we will embark on a nocturnal walk to seek out more fascinating insects.
We will start the day with our breakfast at the lodge before embarking on a boat trip to explore the surrounding waterways and enjoy the scenic views. From there, we will proceed to the port of Atalaya, where we will transfer to a vehicle. Next, you’ll have the option to visit an exciting animal rescue center, where you can get up close with local wildlife and learn about efforts to protect unique species. An amazing experience to discover rescued animals and the work being done to ensure their well-being.
On our way back to the city of Cusco, we will make strategic stops to enjoy a typical lunch and use restroom facilities, arriving in Cusco at approximately 4:00 p.m., just in time to make the most of the rest of your afternoon.
Note: Wear clothing in more discreet tones like green, beige, gray, brown, black, etc. These colors blend better with the natural environment, allowing you to enjoy the wildlife without disturbing it and helping you maintain a low profile in the wild.
