We understand that your time in Peru is limited, which is why we designed this program to help you make the most of it. Even with a short schedule, you can still experience the true wilderness of the Amazon, and this tour makes that possible.
This itinerary is ideal for travelers who want to explore pristine jungle, reach remote areas, and enjoy excellent opportunities for wildlife observation in a limited amount of time. It offers a well-balanced experience that combines adventure, nature, and comfort, allowing you to truly connect with the rainforest.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 a.m. in our private transport. As we journey through stunning mountains and valleys, we will arrive at the charming folkloric town of Paucartambo, where we will take a brief walk to explore and have the option to enjoy a local breakfast. Afterward, we continue for about 40 minutes to Acjanaco Pass (11,450 feet), marking the entrance to Manu National Park.
Once inside, we will embark on a hike through the misty cloud forest, searching for a variety of wildlife, including Peru’s national bird, the cock-of-the-rock, as well as quetzals, toucans, and playful monkeys.
Later, we will reach our lodge and settle in for the night. For those interested, there will be an optional night walk to spot fascinating jungle creatures like spiders, frogs, snakes, etc.
On this day, we will wake up early to begin our journey to the Reserved Zone of Manu National Park. We will first drive to Atalaya Port, where we will board a motorized boat and travel deep into the heart of the reserve, one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth.
During the river journey, there are excellent opportunities to spot wildlife, including several species of monkeys, caimans, capybaras, numerous bird species, colorful macaws, and if we are lucky, the elusive jaguar.
After arriving near our lodge, we will take a guided jungle walk of approximately 1.5 hours to search for monkeys and other rainforest wildlife. Upon arrival at the lodge, everything will be prepared for your stay, allowing you to relax and enjoy the surroundings. After some rest, those with enough energy may join an optional night walk to experience the jungle after dark.
This day begins with an early visit to Salvador Oxbow Lake, one of the best places in the area to observe wildlife. The lake is known for its incredible biodiversity, and as we explore the calm waters, you’ll have the chance to see giant river otters, caimans, monkeys, and macaws flying overhead. The area is also home to several monkey species, including Bolivian squirrel monkeys, red howler monkeys, and spider monkeys, as well as hoatzins, herons, toucans, and many other birds, so it’s important to keep your eyes open at all times.
After exploring the lake, we return to the lodge for breakfast. Later in the morning, we visit a nearby macaw clay lick, where we wait quietly.
In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to practice archery using a bow and arrows, guided by indigenous people . This activity offers a chance to interact with them and learn more about their traditions. Afterward, there is time for another walk through the forest, depending on energy levels.
Today, we will have another opportunity to observe wildlife from the boat as we continue navigating through the Manu Reserved Zone. With some luck, we may even catch a glimpse of the jaguar along the riverbanks. After some hours of river travel, we will arrive at our next lodge, where you can relax and enjoy some free time in the afternoon.
In the evening, we will head out on a guided night walk, offering the chance to spot nocturnal wildlife such as spiders, frogs, owls, and snakes. After the walk, we will return to the lodge for dinner.
Today, sadly, we say goodbye to the jungle. We will take a boat from the lodge back to Atalaya Port, and along the way there will still be chances to spot wildlife from the river. Once we arrive at Atalaya, we’ll continue by vehicle on our return journey to Cusco.
During the drive, we’ll make a few stops along the way for lunch, restroom breaks, and to stretch our legs. We expect to arrive in Cusco at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Important Note: To enhance wildlife observation and reduce your presence in the forest, please wear clothing in neutral and discreet colors—such as green, beige, brown, gray, or black. These tones blend naturally with the environment, helping avoid disturbing animals and allowing for a more immersive and respectful jungle experience.
