Manu National Park reserve is of vital importance since it protects a great diversity of flora and fauna and not only that, it also protects tribes that have not yet been contacted. On this long excursion through the Peruvian jungle, we will have the possibility to see most of what Manu National Park is home to. By entering the protected area of the Manu National Park, we support the safeguarding of the Amazon since this allows us to have better surveillance posts and thus protect our natural heritage.

We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 a.m. in our private transport. As we journey through stunning mountains and valleys, we will arrive at the charming folkloric town of Paucartambo, where we will take a brief walk to explore and have the option to enjoy a local breakfast. Afterward, we continue for about 40 minutes to Acjanaco Pass (3495 m.a.s.l), marking the entrance to Manu National Park.
Once inside, we will embark on a hike through the misty cloud forest, searching for a variety of wildlife, including Peru’s national bird, the cock-of-the-rock, as well as quetzals, toucans, and playful monkeys. Later, we will reach our lodge and settle in for the night. For those interested, there will be an optional night walk to spot fascinating jungle creatures like spiders, frogs, snakes, etc.
In the morning, we will drive to visit a Hummingbird Garden, a true sanctuary for nature lovers. We will be able to observe various species of hummingbirds, monkeys, and colorful tanagers and barbets that adorn the surroundings with their beauty.
We will embark on our boat for a scenic two-hour journey downstream. As we move along, you’ll be immersed in the sights and sounds of the rainforest, with lush greenery and wildlife providing a captivating backdrop. Our second destination will be the natural hot springs, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of the jungle. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to relax in the warm waters while surrounded by the tranquility of nature.
As the sun begins to set, we will arrive at our lodge, where you’ll have time to relax and unwind after the day’s journey. Once refreshed, with a bit of luck, we may encounter some of the rainforest nocturnal creatures, such as owls, colorful frogs hiding among the foliage, slithering snakes, and even the occasional tarantulas.
We will set off early in the morning towards the reserved zone of Manu National Park. After some hours of navigating the winding river, immersed in the heart of the jungle and witnessing fascinating wildlife along the way, we will arrive at the Limonal Control Station, the official gateway to the park’s reserved zone. Here, we’ll complete our entrance procedures before embarking deeper into this pristine wilderness.
During our journey, the riverbanks may reveal a variety of incredible wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for alligators basking in the sun, turtles resting along the shores, playful monkeys swinging through the trees, and large capybaras grazing near the water’s edge. If we’re lucky, we might even catch a glimpse of the elusive jaguar, a rare and unforgettable sight.
In the afternoon, we will take a guided walk through the untouched jungle, exploring the diverse flora and fauna that thrive in this remarkable ecosystem. Surrounded by the ancient trees and the sounds of the forest, you’ll experience the beauty and serenity of one of the world’s most pristine rainforests.
Early in the morning, we visit Salvador Oxbow Lake. Here, you’ll have access to a comfortable catamaran, perfect for relaxing while observing the abundant wildlife in the area. Keep an eye out for giant otters as they fish and play along the lake’s edge, as well various species of monkeys, hoatzins, falcons, herons, and more.
We will visit the Matshiguenka people, where you will experience a fascinating demonstration of traditional archery and spear techniques. This encounter will also provide insight into their customs and way of life, offering an understanding of their cultural practices and traditions (you can get souvenirs there).
We’ll embark on walks along the jungle trails, exploring the rich biodiversity and observing wildlife in their natural habitat. During these hikes, you learn about the diverse flora and fauna of the rainforest, gaining insights into the unique ecosystems that thrive in this lush environment.
Following a delightful breakfast, we will proceed to visit a macaw clay lick, an unforgettable sight where various species of macaws gather in the morning hours. You’ll have the chance to witness the vibrant scarlet macaws, blue-and-yellow macaws, and many others as they feed on the mineral-rich clay, a vital part of their diet. This natural spectacle offers incredible opportunities for birdwatching and photography, as the colorful macaws gather in large numbers, filling the sky with their vibrant hues and distinctive calls.
In the afternoon, we will delve into the wild forest trails, immersing ourselves in the vibrant biodiversity of the rainforest. As we search for wildlife, keep an eye out for fascinating monkey species, including the white-fronted capuchin and pygmy marmoset. We’ll also look for the strikingly colorful macaws, elusive snakes, and the towering giant Ceiba trees.
After breakfast, we depart from our lodge and head to Brashco, where we will have another opportunity to observe the rich wildlife of the region. Here, we’ll explore the lake in small rafts, offering a tranquil and intimate way to experience the surrounding nature.
Following our time at Brashco lake, we’ll make our way to Limonal control station to register our exit. During the journey, we will keep a lookout for the presence of the majestic jaguar, the most formidable predator of the Peruvian jungle. This search will add an element of excitement to our travels as we seek to encounter one of the rainforest’s most elusive and impressive inhabitants.
By the afternoon, we arrive at our lodge, offering you the opportunity to unwind and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the jungle. You’ll have free time to relax, perhaps take a nap, or simply sit back and appreciate the natural beauty around you.
After departing from Dorado Lodge, we will embark on an exciting journey upstream along the Alto Madre de Dios River, making our way to our next destination, Bambu Lodge. During our scenic river voyage, we will make some stops to immerse ourselves in the rich biodiversity of this remarkable ecosystem. Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of wildlife as we explore the riverbanks, and take advantage of the opportunity to cool off with a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters.
Afterward, we will arrive at the port of Atalaya, where we will transfer to our vehicle for the drive to our lodge. Once we reach our destination, you can settle in and enjoy the rest of your evening.
This will be a more relaxed day. After a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, you’ll have enough time to pack your belongings and prepare for the journey to Cusco. This calm morning allows you to take your time and ensure everything is in order for our departure.
As we travel, we will make several well-planned stops along the way to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip. These breaks will provide opportunities for a delicious lunch, restroom stops, and some time to stretch and refresh. We anticipate arriving in Cusco around 3:00 p.m., giving you the chance to unwind and explore the city at your own pace.
