In the Amazon department of Madre de Dios, the Tambopata National Reserve displays its wealth in the form of colors, sounds, heat and life. Mammals, birds, reptiles and butterflies are shown without reservation; thousands of kinds of trees and flowers greet us as we pass; and aquatic creatures in their natural habitat play with our curiosity, sometimes posing for the camera. Tambopata is perfect for discovering the jungle. And fall in love with her forever.
Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, we warmly greet you and take you to the office for check-in. From there, we embark on a scenic one-hour drive to the Filadelfia community. Once at the riverbank, we board a boat for a short 10-minute ride upstream on the Tambopata River, heading to our jungle lodge.
Following a relaxing nap and lunch, we venture into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Led by an experienced local guide, you’ll walk along forest trails, discovering the rich biodiversity of the jungle, including various medicinal plants and centuries-old trees, some over 600 years old. The tour offers multiple opportunities to spot wildlife, whether from the ground or from the top of our impressive 45-meter (148 feet) birdwatching tower, where you’ll observe monkeys, toucans, and other exotic creatures in their natural habitat.
At night, our boat sets off on an exciting night safari along the banks of the Tambopata River, offering a chance to spot nocturnal animals such as caimans, owls, and other creatures that thrive in the darkness of the Amazon jungle.
Starting the day with a fresh cup of tea or coffee sets the perfect tone for the adventure ahead. We embark on a serene boat journey along Tambopata River, heading towards the renowned Chuncho Clay Lick. During the half-hour ride, stay alert, as this is prime time for spotting incredible wildlife (keep an eye out) for elusive creatures like jaguars or even anacondas basking along the riverbanks.
Upon arriving at the Chuncho Clay Lick, you’ll be treated to one of the Amazon’s most spectacular displays of nature. For over three hours, the sky comes alive with the vibrant colors and lively calls of macaws and parrots as they gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay. While you immerse yourself in this breathtaking scene, enjoy a freshly prepared country breakfast, elevating the experience even further.
Afterward, we continue our cruise along the Tambopata River, this time in search of other fascinating wildlife. You may encounter capybaras, tapirs, wild pigs, monkeys, caimans, turtles, and, with a bit of luck, even wild cats.
Note: Wear clothing in more discreet tones like green, beige, gray, brown, black, etc. These colors blend better with the natural environment, allowing you to enjoy the wildlife without disturbing it and helping you maintain a low profile in the wild.
