Shintuya Hot Springs in Manu National Park: Access on Your Own From Cusco

Shintuya Hot Springs are located in the stunning Manu National Park, and if you’re in Cusco, it’s an excellent option to visit due to its easy access. Enjoy a simple and hassle-free journey to one of the most tranquil spots in the Peruvian Amazon. Below, we explain step by step how to reach this relaxing destination, perfect for enjoying nature and its benefits.

To visit the Shintuya Hot Springs in Manu National Park, start by heading east from the historic center of Cusco until you reach San Jerónimo. From there, you can take a local vehicle bound for Salvación, a town in the province of Madre de Dios. Depending on your budget, you can choose between a shared sprinter or a taxi.

The journey from Cusco to Salvación takes about 6 hours by car. Along the way, you’ll pass through breathtaking landscapes, from the Andes to the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, where the scenery magically transforms into lush green surroundings, filled with movie-like vistas.

Upon arriving in Salvación, you’ll find vans offering private or shared transportation to  Shintuya port, located about an hour and a half away. Once at the port, you can take a boat that will carry you downstream for about 10 minutes until you reach Shintuya Hot Springs, situated on the banks of the Madre de Dios River.

Once you arrive at the Shintuya Hot Springs, you can stay at a lodge located just a few meters from the hot springs, which shares the same name. To ensure accommodation is available, we recommend making a reservation before traveling to the Amazon.

To make the most of your visit, we suggest staying a few days at the lodge. This will allow you to appreciate the natural beauty of the area and participate in various activities at your own pace, such as hikes through the primary forest, learning about medicinal plants, wildlife observation, river fishing, and more.

Additionally, you can enjoy the hot springs daily. These natural waters, renowned for their medicinal properties, emerge filtered from underground, offering a unique experience.

Don’t forget to explore an impressive waterfall located about an hour’s walk from the lodge. During the hike, it’s common to spot monkeys, exotic birds, and immerse yourself in the peace that the Amazon rainforest provides.

Shintuya Hot Springs offer a unique experience in the heart of Manu National Park. If you’re in Cusco, this easily accessible destination is perfect for enjoying nature, relaxation, and adventure.
