Among all the hummingbirds that can be observed in Manu National Park, one stands out as especially sought after by birdwatchers: the Rufous-crested Coquette (Lophornis delattrei). This small and vibrant hummingbird, with its distinctive reddish crest, is a true treasure for bird enthusiasts. However, its tiny size and elusive nature make it difficult to spot in the wild.

The Rufous-crested Coquette inhabits tropical forests in Central and South America, with a notable presence in places like Manu National Park. Its diet consists mainly of nectar, complemented by small insects. The hummingbird can be found in various areas of Manu, from lowland regions to montane forests.
To increase the chances of spotting the Rufous-crested Coquette, some local enthusiasts have installed strategic feeders to attract these fascinating birds. Two of the most recommended sites for observing them are Mirador de Pico de Hoz and Inkamazonia, both offering greater opportunities for sightings.
