Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Rainforest
Your journey begins at 5:30 a.m. when we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. As we travel through the majestic Andes mountains, we’ll stop at the folkloric town of Paucartambo for a short exploration and a local breakfast option. From there, we continue to the Acjanaco Pass (3495 m.a.s.l.), the entrance to Manu National Park.
The adventure kicks off with a hike through the mysterious Cloud forest, home to a range of wildlife, including Peru’s national bird, the cock-of-the-rock, along with quetzals, toucans, and monkeys. After a full day of exploration, we’ll settle into our jungle lodge, with an optional night walk to encounter nocturnal creatures such as spiders, frogs, and snakes.
Day 2: Hummingbird Garden – Machuwasi Lake – Night Safari
We start the morning at a stunning hummingbird garden, where you can observe these fascinating creatures up close. Afterward, we’ll take a boat ride to our lodge for lunch before exploring jungle trails to spot monkeys, the ancient hoatzin bird, and other unique wildlife.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit Machuwasi Oxbow Lake, where you’ll have the chance to glide across the lake on traditional rafts and observe jungle birds from a watchtower. Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick – Primary Forest – Night Exploration
Rise early for a scenic boat ride to a parrot clay lick (collpa), where vibrant parrots and macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. Witness the breathtaking display of colors and sounds as these birds flock together, offering a perfect opportunity for incredible photography.
Following breakfast, we’ll explore the towering primary forest, home to massive ceiba trees and a wide range of wildlife. After lunch, experience a revitalizing clay therapy session followed by a refreshing swim in the Manu River. Later that evening, we’ll venture on another night walk, uncovering even more of the forest’s hidden treasures.
Day 4: Boat Ride – Wildlife Rescue Center – Return to Cusco
On our final day, enjoy a leisurely boat ride through the waterways before heading to the Atalaya port, where we’ll transfer to a vehicle. You’ll have the opportunity to visit a wildlife rescue center, learning about conservation efforts and meeting rescued animals up close.
We’ll return to Cusco in the afternoon, with stops for lunch and restrooms along the way, arriving by 4:00 p.m.
