Day 1: Welcome to the Jungle – Monkey Island & Night River Safari
Your Amazon adventure begins with a warm welcome at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station. After a short transfer to our office for check-in and luggage storage, we board a motorized canoe for a scenic 40-minute ride along the Madre de Dios River to your jungle lodge.
Enjoy a refreshing tropical juice and get settled as your guide provides tips for your rainforest journey. In the afternoon, we head to Monkey Island, home to several species of playful monkeys. With luck, you might also see sloths and turtles basking in their natural surroundings.
Later, we set off on a two-hour guided hike into the lush rainforest. Discover ancient trees, medicinal plants, and a wide variety of animals including macaws, monkeys, reptiles, and insects—all guided by a local expert.
As night falls, we cruise the river again in search of caimans, capybaras, owls, and other nocturnal creatures under the starlit sky—an unforgettable end to your first day in the Amazon.
Day 2: Sandoval Lake Exploration – Flora, Fauna & Night Walk
We start the day early with a hike to Lake Sandoval, one of the most beautiful and wildlife-rich areas in the Tambopata National Reserve. A 3-kilometer trail through the rainforest leads us to the lake, where we board a canoe and glide through tranquil waters, home to giant river otters, black caimans, howler monkeys, turtles, and vibrant birdlife including herons and macaws.
After lunch, enjoy guided walks around the lodge trails, learning about medicinal plants, towering trees, colorful birds, and elusive mammals. These afternoon treks provide deep insight into the fragile and fascinating ecosystems of the Amazon rainforest.
