🐾7-Day Manu Reserved Zone Tour from Cusco
Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Amazon Lodge
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:30 a.m. in private transport, beginning our adventure through breathtaking mountains and valleys. Our first stop will be the folkloric town of Paucartambo, where we’ll stroll its charming streets and have the option to enjoy a traditional breakfast. From here, we ascend to the Acjanaco Pass (3,495 m.a.s.l.), the official entrance to Manu National Park.
Once inside, we’ll hike through the mysterious cloud forest, home to vibrant orchids and countless birds. With a bit of luck, we’ll spot Peru’s national bird—the Cock-of-the-Rock—along with quetzals, toucans, and playful monkey species. By evening, we’ll settle into our jungle lodge. Those interested can join an optional night walk to encounter creatures like frogs, snakes, and tarantulas.
Day 2: Hummingbird Paradise – Hot Springs – Dorado Lodge
After breakfast, we’ll visit a spectacular Hummingbird Garden, where dozens of species gather among colorful flowers. Tanager birds, barbets, and curious monkeys also frequent this magical spot.
Later, we’ll embark on a scenic boat ride downstream into the rainforest. Along the way, you’ll be immersed in the symphony of jungle life, surrounded by lush greenery and wildlife. Our highlight will be a hidden jungle hot spring, where you can relax in warm mineral-rich waters before continuing to our lodge.
At night, we’ll venture into the forest again, searching for nocturnal species such as owls, exotic frogs, and even the occasional tarantula.
Day 3: Entering the Reserved Zone – Aguaje Lodge
Early in the morning, we’ll continue our journey deep into the Amazon. After hours of river navigation, we’ll reach the Limonal Control Station, gateway to the Reserved Zone of Manu National Park.
This pristine area is alive with wildlife. Along the riverbanks, watch for capybaras, black caimans, turtles, and several species of monkeys. If luck is on our side, we might even spot the elusive jaguar, silently watching from the shadows.
In the afternoon, we’ll take a guided walk through pristine rainforest, surrounded by towering trees and the sounds of untouched wilderness. Overnight at Aguaje Lodge.
Day 4: Salvador Lake – Macaw Clay Lick – Jungle Trails
We’ll rise early to explore Salvador Oxbow Lake, gliding across its waters on a comfortable catamaran. This is one of the best places to see the endangered giant otters, as well as herons, hoatzins, falcons, and various monkeys.
Later, we’ll visit the Macaw Clay Lick, one of Manu’s most iconic spectacles. In the early morning hours, dozens of scarlet and blue-and-yellow macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich clay, painting the sky with vibrant colors.
In the afternoon, we’ll explore forest trails in search of monkeys, birds, and other mammals, while our guide shares insights about the ecosystem.
Day 5: Otorongo Lake – River Wildlife – Dorado Lodge
After breakfast, we’ll hike to Cocha Otorongo, also called “Jaguar Lake,” famous for its observation platforms overlooking black-water lagoons. Along the way, listen for the sounds of woolly monkeys and colorful bird species moving through the canopy.
Back on the river, we’ll continue searching for jaguars, which are often seen along the sandy riverbanks. Later, we’ll check out of the Reserved Zone at Limonal Control Station before returning downstream to our lodge. Evening at leisure with optional jungle walk.
Day 6: Dorado Lodge – Alto Madre de Dios – Bambu Lodge
This day takes us upstream along the Alto Madre de Dios River, with opportunities to swim in its refreshing waters. During the trip, we’ll make stops to enjoy wildlife observation before arriving at Atalaya Port, where our private vehicle will be waiting.
From there, we drive to Bambu Lodge, where you can relax and enjoy your last evening in the jungle.
Day 7: Bambu Lodge – Cloud Forest – Cusco
